Wyandotte-Oakdale At-a-Glance

Wyandotte, originally known as Oakdale, is a historic south Louisville neighborhood rooted in the city’s early suburban growth.

Developed in the 1890s following the opening of Iroquois Park, the area grew as a middle-class community connected by expanding streetcar lines. Oakdale incorporated in 1904 and became part of Louisville in 1922. The opening of Wyandotte Park in 1935 helped shape the neighborhood’s identity and led to its official renaming in the 1970s, although many residents still proudly call it Oakdale.

Its modern boundaries are Longfield Avenue to the north, Taylor Boulevard to the west, I-264 to the south, and Southern Parkway to the east.
